Tips and Tricks for your home bar to impress your friends

home bar

The home bar is the perfect place to relax after a long day and decompress from your busy life. It’s also a great place to entertain friends, family, and guests during special occasions like parties or holidays. But do you know how to best make it memorable?

This article will go over some tips and tricks for getting a great home bar to impress your friends. The first thing to consider is the furniture. If you have nice couches and chairs in your living area, you can use those sets as designated seating for your guests. The rest of the more comfortable seats are usually in a separate space giving them their designated area for consumption. Keep reading to learn more considerations about your perfect home bar.

Choose the right bar stools

The first consideration for your home bar is what type of furniture you will use and the quality of the bar stools. You will have to use your intuition and experience when choosing the best bar stools in Canada from various selections available on the market. The most important factor is to ensure that you do not get a cheap chair or stool that can break down easily. That might end up ruining your entire day after guests have arrived. Make sure that you get only the best quality and versatile bar stools.

Get basic glassware

The next consideration is to ensure that you have the basic glassware for your guests and your consumption. When it comes to glassware, there are a few things to consider. First, you will need to serve alcohol like wine, beer, or liquor.

You should also have glasses handy for non-alcoholic drinks like water and juice, as well as a cup for everyone who wants coffee or tea served in the middle of a conversation about a special project at work.

It’s also good to have a few empty glasses, or at least 2-3 of them. This way, if you have more guests come than you had anticipated, you can easily serve them. If your budget allows it – buy glassware in bulk so that you always have enough for your guests.

Consider the essential bar tools for your bar at home

If you want to be a successful bartender and impress your guests, use the correct tools for the job. This means having the best blender and juicer for making smoothies and drinks like margaritas and daiquiris. There are different blenders available on the market these days, with different features and prices ranging from $30-$100+.

Strainer

The first bar tool that you should get is a strainer. This bar tool aims to do just that – strain out the solid pieces of fruit, ice, and other ingredients from your drinks. The specific type of strainer you will need depends on the kind of drink you are making.

A simple cocktail like a martini or an old fashioned is easy to make and doesn’t require as much finesse or special equipment as a drink like a daiquiri. You can use any size strainer for that task, but for stronger drinks like daiquiris, it’s worth it to purchase one specifically designed for those drinks.

Shaker

The next thing you need to make a good drink is a shaker. There are a few types of shakers, the most common being the metal cocktail shaker and the Boston shaker. Both have their pros and cons, but ultimately it is up to you which one you want to get.

The Boston Shaker is usually more affordable, but since it’s made out of two (generally plastic) cups, they can be more prone to slippage when shaking, leading to an uneven drink. Some people like that because it adds a bit of character to their drinks. The other type, the metal cocktail shaker, is usually made of stainless steel, so it is more durable, but it can also be harder to use.

Jigger

The next bar tool that you need to get is a jigger. This bar tool isn’t as common in Canada as in the states, but it can come in handy. The jigger measures and pours the right amount of liquor for your drink into your cocktail glass or cup for mixing drinks. So if you don’t know how to measure drinks by sight, this tool will ensure that you always pour the exact amount of liquid required and no more or less than what’s needed for a good drink.

Bar Spoon

One more tool you need for your home bar is a bar spoon, also called a mixing spoon. It has different uses during the preparation process than the jigger does. For example, when you are making cocktails from scratch using fresh ingredients and not premade mixes, it will come in handy to stir and mix your cocktail ingredients before straining them into the glasses where they will be served. In addition to that, it can also serve as a garnish or decoration if you like to do drinks in an artistic way with nice garnishes on top of each glass.

Peeler

The last bar tool that we will not really call a bar tool since it’s used for prepping and peeling ingredients, but it has a big place in the final drink is the peeler. Bartenders use it to peel off the skin from citrus fruits like lemons and limes, creating a nice clean surface for you to cut them with your knife into thin slices. When you do that, make sure you rub the fruit around with your fingers to get all of the juices out of it before cutting it.

The Bottom Line

Setting up a home bar can be overwhelming at first, but you will have everything you need to prepare your delicious cocktails and other drinks with the right choice of the items mentioned above. As long as you follow the steps above carefully and make sure that you get only quality products, your home bartender can be top-notch in no time!
