Tips on how to set-up your bird cage

bird cage

Setting up a bird cage can seem like an easy task. However, there are many things to consider before you purchase your first cage. You will want to make sure that the cage is placed in a quiet area of your home or office and that it has enough space for the birds to move around comfortably.

Choose a bird cage that is the right size

Birds come in various sizes, and you will want to make sure that the cage is large enough for your bird. When measuring the size of your bird’s beak, consider how long it can open its mouth wide. The width should also correspond with the species type!

Most birds can live in a cage that is between 24 inches and 36 inches long. However, if you plan on housing multiple birds or having larger species of birds, it’s important to have enough space for the bird(s) to move around without hitting the sides of its enclosure!

Make sure to include perches and toys

Perches and toys are important for multiple reasons. You will want to make sure that your bird has the opportunity to perch itself and balance on a wide platform rather than wire bars or other narrow surfaces. These bird perches are also great to help keep your bird’s beak and nails trimmed! Often, birds like having several different types of perches in their enclosure because they offer different textures for the bird to walk on. You can also add in a variety of toys and accessories for your birds to play with! There are many types of toys that you can purchase, such as chews or swings made from rope, wood, metal, and more.

It’s important to note that if any part of the bird’s toy or perch is made from a material that can be harmful to your bird’s health, you should remove it immediately. You will also want to make sure that there are enough toys in the cage for all birds living inside! Sometimes having too many toys causes overcrowding and stress within an enclosure.

Consider the location of the cage

Before purchasing a birdcage, it’s important to consider where exactly you will place the cage within your home. You don’t want to put the cage somewhere that is too hot or cold and typically not frequented by humans (for example, if you have an office space).

The best location for your birdcage depends on the type of birds that you have. For example, if you plan on having cockatiels as your pets, it’s best to place them in a room where there is little activity during the day so they can rest and sleep undisturbed. If you are purchasing a cage for multiple birds or larger species of birds, make sure that the cage has enough space to accommodate the number of birds you will be placing inside!

Clean up after your bird to ensure that they stay healthy and happy

Cleanliness is important for the health of your birds. As a pet owner, it’s your duty to ensure that you clean out their cage regularly so they can live in an environment free from disease and parasites!

You will want to clean out your birdcage at least once per week by removing all of the old or soiled substrate and toys, disinfecting the cage with a natural cleaner or mild soap, and then completely drying out all surfaces. It’s also important to remove any waste from inside the enclosure daily so your bird doesn’t ingest harmful bacteria!

Provide food in bowls or cups so that they don’t have to spend time searching for their food

Birds like to forage and eat their food, so you must provide them with both a bowl or cup of water as well as their daily intake in the form of seeds! Birds will spend time trying to find any uneaten seeds left inside of their enclosure. If they cannot find anything, this can cause stress and may even lead to a loss of appetite.

Wet bird food is fine if you are going on vacation and can’t be home for an extended period of time. However, your pet mustn’t eat wet food as much as dry seeded foods! Birds will also have access to fresh fruits or vegetables at least once per day, so they can feed themselves whenever they are hungry.

Have you been wondering how to set up your first birdcage? We have a few tips that will help make sure your feathered friend is happy and healthy. First, choose a cage that’s the right size for your bird- it should be large enough so they can stretch their wings but small enough to prevent them from flying out. Next, make sure to include some perches and toys in their new home– this will keep them occupied during those moments when you’re not at home with them.
