Just For Laughs festival – The lineup for the 35th edition of the Just For Laughs Festival was announced this past Wednesday, and there is no doubt that it should already start making people smile in anticipation of the moments of good humour that are coming in just two months. One of the highlights of this Just For Laughs festival edition will be the presentation of American comedian Jerry Seinfeld who will share the stage with France’s Gad Elmaleh. This show will mark the return of Seinfeld who was here for the Just For Laughs festival 1989 edition, while for Gad it would be his second English appearance after his debut at last year’s Festival.
Another big event€”this time with a local star€”will be that of Sugar Sammy who will be presenting his International Gala on Friday, July 28 at 9:45 p.m. at the Wilfrid Pelletier Theatre. Legendary giants of comedy such as Don Rickles, Steve Martin, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Bill Maher, and Bill Burr will be on stage with Sugar for a night that promises to make everyone laugh.
Canadian comedy will also have a big night with The Rick Mercer Gala which is scheduled for Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m. at the Wilfrid Pelletier Theatre. Another Canadian celebrity to be present is Howie Mandel with a multi-comic show, The Howie Mandel Gala, which will take place on Saturday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wilfrid Pelletier Theatre.
On the movie front, it was announced that Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud Network and Just For Laughs had joined forces to produce a selection of short films from the U.S. and Canada. The new initiative is called Laugh Out Loud Network Presents: Just For Laughs Eat My Shorts. The top five films, previously chosen from a number of shorts submitted, will be screened on Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m. at the Imperial Theatre.
There will also be a screening of the “Spark of Madness” episode produced by CNN and part of the series “The History of Comedy.” According to the organizers: “Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion moderated by Kliph Nesteroff with executive producers Mark Herzog and Todd Milliner, and comedian W. Kamau Bell, on Thursday, July 27 at 4 p.m. at the Grand Salon Opera, Level 4, Hyatt Regency Hotel.”
The Ethnic Show series, another popular feature of the festival will present Iranian-American Maz Jobrani, Jewish-American Jessica Kirson, Korean-Irish-American Steve Byrne, the Italian-Canadian duo The Doo Wops made up of John Catucci and David Mesiano, Portuguese-Canadian Mike Rita, and the Dominican-American Vlad CaamaÃ±o.
