When the winter is just about to set in then you want to have something to look forward to. Playing fantasy sports is a good way to make the winter go by much faster. It not only gives you the possibility to make money, but it is also something to look forward to when the days are short.
One of the best ways to take advantage of playing fantasy NHL is to host a draft party. When your league comes together to do a draft and assemble their teams, it is the ideal occasion to host a party. Since the party has a practical side to it, you do have to plan it a certain way so that it works within the parameters of the draft.
In this article, we will go over several things that you have to keep in mind when planning a draft party for the NHL fantasy season.
Pick a format
There are two main formats for the way you set up your league. They will have a big impact on how you will plan your draft party.
The first is a season-long league in which you have one draft before the season begins. This is the easiest to plan for since it only happens once and then you are free after that. Many people do like to continue to host parties during the season, however. It’s just that the draft party is a one-time thing and any parties after that have fewer restrictions.
Second to that is a daily fantasy league called a DFS. This is a one-game season so there is a draft before the agreed-upon game day. Then once the day is over and all the games are played, the season is over and a winner is announced. This is more of a challenge since you will be hosting multiple draft parties so the owners can make their NHL DFS picks.
The best way to decide is to determine how much of a commitment that you want to make both in terms of the party and also the amount of work you want to put into your team. If you only want to do one big party and then not host any others, the season-long format will be best.
Focus on finger foods
There is going to be a lot of commotion while the draft takes place. Preparing meals in which people have to sit down and eat their meal is not going to work well with this type of format. Food will get cold sitting on plates, there are people getting up and sitting down and people need to concentrate.
This is why finger foods are the best option since people can pick at the food when they are ready. They’ll also be able to make their picks while munching on a sandwich at the same time. Eating a plate of pasta while trying to write things down and pay attention to the draft is not exactly going to work out.
