Junior Hoilett is arguably the most recognized Canadian footballer to have played in the English Premier League. The Canada international carved out a great career in the EPL, which is regarded as the best soccer league in the world.
What Makes the English Premier League So Special?
The English Premier League is unique. Many of the world’s best clubs, such as Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, ply their trade in England’s top tier, and the greatest players want to strut their stuff in the EPL. A fascinating fight for the title is ongoing this season, with Man City, Liverpool, and Arsenal all gunning for gold. It is the most popular league in the world to bet on, and you can use the Stake bonus to back your favourite to prevail. Right now, Man City are available at 2.50, Arsenal are priced at 2.75, and you can get Liverpool at 3.25. The title race is incredibly tight in the betting.
Hoilett’s EPL Journey
Hoilett was lucky enough to play in the Premier League for three clubs. He broke onto the scene at Blackburn Rovers in 2007 before going on to play for Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City. Hoilett was tipped as the next best thing in his early days at Ewood Park, though he never quite lived up to the billing.
After leaving Blackburn in 2012, the Ontario-born ace made the switch to QPR. Two of his four years in London were spent in the Premier League, where he racked up almost 50 EPL appearances for the Hoops. Hoilett then joined Neil Warnock at Cardiff in 2016.
It was in the Welsh capital that Hoilett arguably had the best years of his career. In his first full season in Cardiff, Hoilett helped the Bluebirds reach the Premier League. He played a pivotal role as Warnock’s men finished runners-up behind Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After his five-year stint in Wales ended, Hoilett briefly moved to Reading before returning to Canada to play for Vancouver Whitecaps in 2023. Hoilett left his home land to move back to Europe in 2024, reuniting with Warnock at Scottish club Aberdeen. Despite Warnock’s departure, Hoilett wants to stay and fight for a place in the team at Pittodrie Stadium.

Over 60 International Caps
While playing his soccer in Europe, Hoilett has managed to rack up over 60 appearances for the Canada national team. Since making his debut in 2015, the attacker has been a huge player for the Reds. He has scored some memorable goals, including one in a vital 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The winger was part of the 2022 World Cup squad, playing in all three of Canada’s group games.
Hoilett will turn 34 in June, so his days as an international soccer player are numbered. However, while he keeps wearing the red jersey, Hoilett will continue to give his all for his country.

Many other Canadian players have played in the Premier League over the years, including Scott Arfield, Tomasz Radzinski, and Craig Forrest. Still, Hoilett is the most recognized name of the lot. Playing in England is every young player’s dream, and Hoilett lived out his EPL fairytale with three different clubs.
