COVID-19: Quebec – Quebec Premier François Legault, Health Minister Christian Dube and Public Health Director Dr. Horacio Arruda in a press conference today said they will be moving three regions in Quebec to the highest COVID-19 alert level red and will be adding stricter health measures to try and slow down the spread of COVID-19.
The three regions in Quebec that have been moved to the Red alert are:
- Montreal
- Quebec city
- Chaudière-Appalaches, (south of the provinces capital)
“We have looked at the results over the weekend and the number of cases has gone up significantly,’ said Premier Legault in today’s afternoon press conference. “We need to make some difficult decisions.”
The new safety measures for the effected red zone areas are:
- (starting Wednesday at midnight)
- All bars, casinos and restaurants are closed (takeout only)
- Gyms and training centres open
- Shopping malls open
- Public Parks open
- Ban on all home gatherings
- Only one caregiver permitted per household for those people living alone
- Theatres closed
- Libraries closed
- Museums closed
- Masks must be worn during demonstrations
- Being less then two metres apart is prohibited
- Funerals 25-person limit
- Weddings 25-person limit
- Hair salons will be allowed to stay open
- Hotels are allowed to stay open
- Schools will stay open for now
“Schools must stay open so parents can continue to work and earn money,” said Premier Legault. “People must respect the rules, it doesn’t make any sense not to. These measures where not put in place just for fun. We are putting measures in place to protect others.”
