Beijing’s 798 Art District is set ablaze with colour, imagination, and cutting-edge creativity as rising art prodigy Yanran Chen unveils her first solo exhibition in China, Neon Dreamland. Running from May 23 to July 6, 2025, this genre-blending spectacle marks the debut showcase at ART FOCUS, the newest experimental space launched by Tang Contemporary Art.
Curated by actor and Art Naoke founder Yuan Hong, the exhibition is more than an art show—it’s an immersive odyssey through surreal futures, layered identities, and vibrant dreams. At just 20 years old, Chen is already making waves globally, and Neon Dreamland cements her place as a defining voice of Generation Z in the international art world.

Why Neon Dreamland Is a Must-See
Chen’s debut in her hometown of Beijing is a highly anticipated moment. Blending anime influences, speculative sci-fi, and personal symbolism, the exhibition is a visual feast that reflects the artist’s unique upbringing—rooted in both the ancient alleyways of Beijing and its booming digital culture. As part of Beijing Art Season, the show exemplifies ART FOCUS’s mission to merge art, technology, and public engagement in a wholly new format.

Inside the Exhibition: A Two-Part Narrative
The exhibition is structured in two distinct but interconnected parts, offering a layered viewing experience that bridges personal introspection with collaborative imagination.
1. Personal Works: Where Dreams Meet Machines
In the first gallery, viewers encounter Chen’s original paintings and sculptures—charged with saturated color, metallic textures, and symbolic resonance.
2. WaarWorld Collaboration: A Post-Human Playground
The second gallery explores Chen’s collaboration with digital art collective WaarWorld, inspired by Liu Cixin’s sci-fi novel The Supernova Era. Here, six futuristic character sculptures—crafted from recycled electronics and iridescent resin—depict a child-led civilization navigating a post-apocalyptic world with playful resilience.
Special Appearance: Roby Lakatos Plays for Art
Celebrated violinist and collector Roby Lakatos, a fan of Chen’s work, flew in to attend the exhibition’s opening. The “Gypsy Violin King” performed live during the launch event, adding a sonic dimension to the evening’s celebration and affirming the artist’s growing global appeal.

Yanran Chen: A Creative Force to Watch
Born in 2005, Chen’s work reflects an eclectic mix of influences—from Japanese manga to French avant-garde cinema. Since her breakout in Tokyo in 2023, she’s exhibited in Shanghai, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and beyond. She’s collaborated with luxury brands like GUCCI and Balenciaga, and serves as an ambassador for LEUCHTTURM1917, championing sustainable creativity. Her creative lab, ACCRO STUDIO, pushes the boundaries of art and design for a new generation.
ART FOCUS: Redefining the Art Experience
Designed as an immersive ecosystem for contemporary art, ART FOCUS combines interactive tech, public education, and bold storytelling. Housed in a renovated 1960s industrial building, the space uses projection mapping, soundscapes, and AI elements to transform exhibitions into sensory journeys. Curator Yuan Hong describes Neon Dreamland as a “labyrinth of ideas” where viewers don’t just observe—they perform, participate, and connect.
