QUEBEC CITY, Tuesday, June 3, 2025 – The 2025 edition of the Festival Carrefour is drawing to a close, and the final days of its program are promising! Laughter, intimacy, and touching emotions are on the agenda, until June 7, with the presentation of the plays Michel(le), Maurice, and The Rise of the BlingBling in the city’s theatres, not to mention the always popular walking tour “Where Do You Go When You Sleep Walking…?” in Old Quebec!
Michel(le)
A production by Théâtre La Seizième
From June 3 to 5 at Théâtre Périscope
A meet-and-greet is planned after the June 3 performance.
Michel(le) is the name of Joey Lespérance’s sister, who delivers here the intimate story of the woman who loved and inspired him without ever being able to become who she truly was. Was it because she wasn’t born in the right body? Or at the right time? By delving into their childhood and formative years, come meet Candy and discover the underground world of queer Montreal in the 70s and 80s, where exuberance, distress, and drugs combined to form a dangerous cocktail.
Maurice
A Théâtre Bienvenue aux dames production!
June 5-7 at Théâtre La Bordée
A meet-and-greet is scheduled after the June 5 performance.
At 33, Maurice Dancause, a hard-working and brilliant economist, suffered a stroke. Overnight, everything changed: his brain, his tastes, his sensitivity, his very personality. Inspired by his resilience, Anne-Marie Olivier steps into Maurice’s shoes. With humor and candor, she tells us the story of this man and the real struggle he faces every day to find the words he needs, despite his aphasia. Each evening, Maurice will need a spectator to bring his story to a close, creating a unique and skillfully improvised performance each time.
The Rise of the BlingBling
An Empire Panique production
June 6 and 7 at the Théâtre Le Diamant
A meet-and-greet is planned after the June 7 performance.
In a world where the Empire is all-powerful, angels are soldiers, and Christmas trees talk, Woody grew up with Jesus as his superhero (specifically, Jesus in Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ). In a wildly wacky universe, Philippe Boutin invites us to question the true meaning of the Bible and what remains of it in popular mythology. Humor, cinema, kung fu, and live music come together in this multidisciplinary diptych where anything goes. A sublime pop-mystical epic halfway between the New Testament and a spaghetti western.
