The Canadian Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants (CJHSD) is a grassroots organization dedicated towards giving a voice for its members, who are Canadian Holocaust survivors. The organization has recently announced the formation of a new second generation organization, under its auspices, called Montreal Voices of Holocaust Descendants.
The group will hold its inaugural public event on October 28, 7 p.m., at the Congregation Dorshei Emet Reconstructionist Synagogue, located at 18 Cleve Road in Hampstead. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Dr. Eva Fogelman, a New York-based psychologist, psychotherapist and author who is a pioneer in the treatment on how the Holocaust psychologically affects survivors and descendants of survivors. Lovers and collectors of classic toys from the baby boomer era and beyond will not want to miss this year’s Montreal ToyCon, which takes place on November 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, located at 7000 Place Robert-Joncas, in Ville St. Laurent. The Montreal ToyCon will be the ideal place to add more items to your toy collection, as comic book and toy dealers will be present to sell everything from DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Transformers, Funko Pop and so much more. To mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I, the McGill Library will present a lecture with historian/author Alexander Reford called Montreal at the Front: Personalities of the Great War on November 7, 5:30 p.m., in the Rare Books and Special Collections Department of the McLennan Library Building, located at 3459 McTavish. Mr. Redford will speak about how the First World War made an impact on Montreal and Montrealers, as seen from the point of view of 10 characters who are featured in the exhibition War Flowers.
