Japanese-Canadian flutist and multi-instrumentalist Yuki Isami unveils the official dates of her 14-stop tour, which will run from fall 2025 through spring 2026. This series of concerts marks a turning point in her career, as it closely follows the release of her very first solo album, Rives, which came out in May 2024.
Active for more than twenty years on Quebec and international stages, Yuki Isami is a key figure in the Canadian music scene. She currently serves as second flute and piccolo with the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville and the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay, while also being regularly invited to perform with numerous ensembles (Orchestre Métropolitain, Orchestre symphonique de Laval). Alongside her classical career, she is also a member of the Japanese rock band TEKE::TEKE.
Yuki Isami has studied with renowned masters in Japan, Canada, and Europe. She has worked with conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Alain Trudel, Jean-François Rivest, and Kazuyoshi Akiyama. Her musical practice is enriched by a deep knowledge of traditional Japanese arts, including the Shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute) and Nihonbuyo dance, which she studied under masters Kan Fukuhara and Yukimitsu Bando.
Since the beginning of her career, she has developed impactful interdisciplinary projects, including Branches et racines, a multimedia concert presented at MAI, and TSUKI, a visual musical tale created in collaboration with La Nef, the Montreal Botanical Garden, and arts councils.
Released on May 3, 2024, Rives is the result of years of research, exploration, and collaboration. The album offers a subtle dialogue between the ancestral sounds of Japan and those of the Western world. Yuki performs an eclectic repertoire using a wide array of instruments, including various Japanese flutes, the koto (Japanese harp), and the shamisen (Japanese banjo).
True to her open and collaborative approach, Yuki Isami will be joined on stage by pianist Natsuki Hiratsuka, who trained at Boston University, the Manhattan School of Music, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Hiratsuka has performed on several continents and is distinguished for her work spanning classical and contemporary repertoires. Percussionist Corinne René, a versatile artist who moves between classical music, improvisation, visual performance, and sound art, will also perform. She frequently plays with the Orchestre Métropolitain and ensembles specializing in contemporary music.
The 2025–2026 tour will feature selections from Rives, as well as a varied program of chamber music and traditional Japanese compositions.
