When individuals plan to go to another nation, they must fulfill certain requirements. A visa application is usually one of the first things that come up when you travel abroad. And this is where the ETIAS comes into play. But what is it, and how does it impact how Canadians travel to Europe?
If you have been wondering about this visa program, read on to determine which documents you need to travel to Europe under ETIAS.

What is the ETIAS?
The European Travel Information and Authorization System or ETIAS is a visa waiver program that will allow Canadians to enter any nation in Europe through air, land or sea, after authorization by ETIAS when it comes into effect in 2022.
Currently, Canadians traveling to Europe for vacation or business can bypass visa applications, given their trip doesn’t exceed 90 days. For another reason or a longer stay, you have to go through the regular visa application process.
The proposed ETIAS Europe program is a new border management system that the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs, and Citizenship believes will enhance security within Europe’s borders. It is going to make travel much easier and more convenient for Canadians. They will no longer have to deal with the process of applying for a visa before entering the Schengne Area.
Documents Canadians require to travel to Europe
So, what eligibility criteria will Canadians have to meet before getting approved for ETIAS? These are the ETIAS Visa Waiver for Canadians you must meet before you are granted an ETIAS authorization pass into Europe:

You will also be asked a series of security questions covering your background and eligibility potential. The queries will address medical issues, criminal records, and any prior immigration or travel histories that resulted in the applicant’s deportation or rejection from an European country.
How to apply for ETIAS authorization to travel to Europe
If you meet the above requirements, then you can apply for ETIAS online. The application is easy and only takes a few minutes. You’ll need to provide certain information when applying, such as:
- Full name
- Date and country of birth
- Gender
- Address of your personal residence
- Member state of intended entry

After submitting your ETIAS authorization request, it doesn’t mean that you will automatically get approved. Instead, you will be given a confirmation page. The relevant authorities review the application, and you should receive your ETIAS authorization decision within minutes.
A notification regarding the application status is sent via email with the subject “ETIAS authorization request.” If you don’t get an email, then it usually means that your ETIAS application has been denied.
