Echo exhibition extended at the Phi Centre #echoexhibit

Sound-of-Space-at-the-phi-centre

Echo: The Sound of Space is being extended at the Phi Centre until February 3, giving Montrealers one last chance to experience the best of virtual reality.

The Phi Centre’s Echo exhibition brings some of the world’s leading virtual reality experiences together in Canada for the very first time, inviting viewers to experience the contemporary world through the universe’s timeless vibrations.

For anyone looking to experience virtual reality for the first time, or for those who want to sample the best VR of 2018, Echo: The Sound of Space is a unique gateway into the medium. The thirteen works selected by Phi immerse viewers into the distant echoes of space‑time, inviting them to connect to the world around them through a phenomenon that originated billions of years ago and continues to resonate around us today.

Many of the VR works continue to win critical and popular acclaim, including:

The Spheres trilogy

This is your chance to experience all three instalments of Eliza McNitt’s Spheres trilogy, presented together in Canada for the very first time. Produced by Darren Aronofsky, Spheres is an exploratory journey into the origins of the music of the cosmos. The trilogy was welcomed at all of the world’s major festivals in 2018, from Sundance to SXSW, Tribeca, Venice, Telluride, and Cannes. Featuring the inimitable voices of Millie Bobby Brown, Jessica Chastain, and Patti Smith, Spheres takes us out into the cosmos and all the way back to the Big Bang.

Vestige

In Aaron Bradbury’s immersive work, viewers must make their way through a pitch‑black space guided by the voice of Lisa, who shares her story of life with her young husband Erik before his tragic death. By looking around and moving through the space, visitors choose how they want to move through the story. This work is also presented in French, narrated by Marion Cotillard.

Tales of Wedding Rings VR

A hybrid work combining virtual reality and Japanese manga, Tales of Wedding Rings VR was created by MAYBE and directed by Kaei Sou. Available in Japanese with English subtitles, Tales of Wedding Rings VR is the story of Sato, whose neighbour and schoolmate Hime turns out to be a princess from another world. Listening only to his heart, Sato follows Hime into the unknown. Tales of Wedding Rings VR is a must for manga lovers in the age of virtual reality. It was presented in September at Venice Virtual Reality—the Venice International Film Festival’s VR selection—and at the World VR Forum’s 2018 Summit, where it took home the prestigious Imperial Crown.
