This past Thursday Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said she wants bar and restaurant terraces to open by June 1, 2021. However this announcement was met with some reservations from the Quebec government.

Quebec Health minister Christian Dudé said, “municipal politicians should ‘stay calm’ and wait for Quebec’s plan to reopen the economy before making such announcements. We know people are fed up and I know people are excited for the terraces to open. We are aware of that, but we must stay prudent.”
Mayor Plante took to social media and fired back on Twitter right after Dudé statement. “Restaurants and bar owners have been suffering for a year. I will not fold my arms, nor ‘stay calm’ in the face of their distress.”
Montreal Mayor Plante said that her and her administration will announce its plan to supprt the bar and restaurant industry, which is a very important part of Montreal.”
