16th Montreal Black Film Festival (MIBFF) is underway

The 16th Montreal Black Film Festival (MIBFF) is now underway. Until October 4, the festival will showcase 120 films from 30 countries, in which all of them will be screened online. As well, the films are available for viewing not only throughout Montreal, but also across Canada and around the world during the festival period. Attendees can purchase an all access pas for just $49, which will not only give them access to watch all 120 movies in the festival line-up, but also give them a chance to vote for their favourite films in five different categories; the winners will be announced on October 5.

Presented by Quebecor in association with Desjardins and created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, the MIBFF gives Black filmmakers and performers an artistic voice and platform during these difficult times when such an opportunity may not be always be presented to them.

The festival is being bookended with the opening film “The Cuban” starring Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett, Jr., and the closing film “Black Boys”, which is produced by Malcolm Jenkins, who plays for the New Orleans Saints of the NFL.

Also being offered at this year’s MIBFF are the annual MIBFF Black Market, which will feature a number of panel discussions with topics dealing with Blacks in the film industry today; the MIBFF Kids Program; and a movie screening and discussion about the Haitian film “Anita” on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.
