Canadian Grand Prix: Which Teams Are Fastest on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve?

Red-Bull-F1-car

The Canadian Grand Prix has long been a highlight of the Formula 1 calendar. Each year, fans from around the world watch the sport’s finest drivers and teams battle it out on the iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. While race wins naturally garner more attention, the fastest lap times throughout the weekend also provide a glimpse into teams’ strategies.

A recent study conducted on behalf of Tooniebet, a Canadian sports and entertainment platform, analyzed the fastest lap times from the 2024 and 2025 Canadian Grand Prix races. The average lap times across two seasons reveal which teams have set the pace in Canada recently.

The Fastest Teams at the Canadian GP

According to the study, the following are the five fastest teams at the Canadian GP across 2024 and 2025:

1. Mercedes

Mercedes averaged the fastest average lap time across 2024 and 2025. The Silver Arrows clocked in at 74.572 seconds, which is 6% faster than the overall field average of 79.157 seconds. Their average lap time of 74.287 seconds in 2025 shows an impressive year-on-year improvement. At this year’s race in June, polesitter George Russell set the fastest lap time before clinching Mercedes’ first victory of the season, while Kimi Antonelli finished third.

2. McLaren

McLaren rank second with an average lap time of 75.122, just 0.550 seconds behind Mercedes and 5% quicker than the overall field average. Their progress from 2024 to 2025 has been nothing short of remarkable, as the Constructors’ Champions shaved over 1.5 seconds off their last year’s average, dropping from 75.901 seconds to 74.343. Championship leader Oscar Piastri finished fourth this year, with Lando Norris 18th after crashing out.

3. Aston Martin

Aston Martin are in third place with an average lap time of 75.788 seconds. Like McLaren, Aston Martin have also made substantial progress and trimmed nearly 1.5 seconds off their 2024 average of 76.532 seconds. Fernando Alonso finished seventh this year, while Lance Stroll was 17th.

4. Haas

Haas rank fourth with an average lap time of 75.842 seconds, which is 4% faster than the overall field average. The team has made steady progress, improving from 76.591 seconds in 2024 to 75.093 seconds in 2025. Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman finished ninth and 11th this year, respectively.

5. Red Bull

Red Bull, one of the most successful teams in recent years, rank fifth with an average lap time of 76.019 seconds. After a slower performance in 2024 with an average lap time of 77.194 seconds, they bounced back strongly in 2025 with a lap time of 74.843 seconds. Reigning champion Max Verstappen came second, while Yuki Tsunoda was 12th.

The remaining teams ranked as follows:

  • Alpine rank 6th with an average of 76.328 seconds.
  • Sauber rank 7th with an average of 76.340 seconds.
  • Racing Bulls rank 8th with an average of 76.387 seconds (2025 time).
  • RB, currently called Racing Bulls, rank 9th with an average of 77.192 seconds (2024 time).
  • Ferrari rank 10th with an average of 78.611 seconds.
  • Williams were the slowest with an average of 79.157 seconds.

Final Thoughts

Mercedes continue to maintain their edge in Canada, but McLaren and Aston Martin are quickly catching up. “This data highlights how competition at the Canadian Grand Prix is intensifying year after year,” a Tooniebet spokesperson said. As the 2025 season comes to a close, it will be interesting to see if these trends continue in Canada next year and whether any new teams can break into the top three.
