Whether it’s for business or pleasure, there are many reasons to stay in downtown Toronto. From the best furnished apartments to the rich cultural history to the seasonal events and museums, many tourists and executives find their temporary homes in this city.
During your stay, you might be interested in some of the restaurants around town. Here are some, but certainly not all, of our recommendations.
Amano – 65 Front Street West
The chef and co-owner of this pasta establishment, Michael Angeloni, is an expert in multiple forms of pasta from classics like rigatoni and farfalle with pesto to campanelle and everything else in between. Described as both casual and sophisticated, Amano is a favorite among the residents of Toronto.
Ardo – 243 King Street East
Here’s another Italian favourite. The chef Roberto Marotta is proud of his use of Sicilian ingredients. You’ll find pastas like the Anatra with long fettuccine strands and pizzas with homemade Sicilian sausage here.
Biff’s Bistro – 4 Front Street East
For a more British taste with a hint of Parisian, Biff’s Bistro complements excellent European food with a classic look featuring burgundy leather and black-and-white photography.
Canoe – 66 Wellington Street West
Now, how about some Canadian cuisine? The canoe is a taste of Canada that’s been operating for almost 25 years. The excellent presentation makes it a favourite among the locals. Try out the tea-smoked duck alongside roasted vegetables. The best winemakers of Canada are proud to contribute to Canoe’s extensive fine wine list.
Drake One Fifty – 150 York Street
If art and elegance is your aim, Drake One Fifty is ready to deliver. Try its zesty take on traditional brasserie food here, enhanced by local and seasonal ingredients and made-from-scratch recipes.
Miku – 105 Bay Street
Interested in exotic foods like Japanese cuisine? Miku’s sushi featuring ocean trout, jalapeno, and other ingredients is not to be missed.
Momofuku Kojin – 190 University Avenue
The focus of this restaurant is cuisine from South America. A wood fire grill is a perfect place to cook anything from steak to avocados and vegetables. There’s also a Noodle Bar serving ramen and a Milk Bar upstairs with cookies, cakes, and other sweets. Finally, the Kojin part is located on the top floor with local meats and produce. Look for the easily recognizable glass windows for this restaurant.
Richmond Station – 180 Queen Street West
A few years ago, famous chef Carl Heinrich won a round of Top Chef Canada and used the money to open Richmond Station. Since then, the company’s mix of vegetarian and meat-based dishes have become incredibly popular in the Toronto area. Come here if you want to try some of the charcuterie, salads, ribs, and the famous Station Burger.
