CSL Dramatic Society’s Sound of Music Is a Triumph of Heart, Talent and Song

CSL Dramatic Society’s Sound of Music Is a Triumph of Heart, Talent and Song

To mark its milestone 15th season, the Cote St. Luc Dramatic Society (CSLDS) is presenting its most ambitious production for their annual spring show.

The Sound of Music, which is taking place at the Harold Greenspon Auditorium, located at 5801 Cavendish Boulevard, until June 14 tells the courageous story of the Von Trapp Family Singers and their escape from Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938. It inspired the hit 1959 Broadway musical that starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, and the Oscar-winning 1965 movie version that starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

As a vivid testament to the CSLDS’ immense popularity with performers and audiences alike over the past 15 years, this production of The Sound of Music has established two separate sets of cast members to perform on alternating dates throughout the run, which are named the Kittens and the Roses (based on a couple of a few of Maria’s favorite things), and many of the performances have so far been sold out or has limited number of tickets available.

No matter which cast you see, The Sound of Music is a glorious, delightful musical presentation that beautifully recaptures the spirit of the Broadway and motion picture versions, no matter if it’s Maria, Captain Von Trapp, Uncle Max or the scene-stealing Von Trapp children. And of course, there are the memorable musical score and songs that were written and composed by the legendary duo of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, that still live in the hearts and minds of those who have seen the movie version that has become an annual Christmas holiday TV tradition, such as “Do-Re-Mi”, “My Favorite Things”, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Climb Every Mountain”, which sung by the Kittens cast member Tiana Malone as Mother Abbess, is indeed a showstopping moment.

Find out why the hills will always be alive with the sound of music; however, tickets are selling fast. To purchase tickets, or for more information, go to csldramaticsociety.com.
