Types of Exterior doors

Exterior Doors

The exterior doors are the first thing people see before they get to the inside of your home. For this reason, it is best to take your time before choosing the type of door to install in your home. The most important factor is the functionality of the door, but the door should also be appealing.

There are several considerations to look at before buying a new entry door. The best way to know the best door for your home is to have the necessary knowledge about the doors. The following is what you need to know about different types of exterior doors you are likely to find in the market.

  1. Fiberglass Doors

Fiberglass is one of the newest door materials on the market. Despite that, it is slowly becoming a top choice for most homeowners due to its advantages. A fiberglass door’s most commonly known feature is that it does not require rod and corrode, as with wooden and steel doors.

The fact that fiberglass does not rot or corrode makes it the best option for people living in damp locations or where your exterior doors are directly facing harsh weather conditions. Fiberglass doors are also stronger when it comes to the structural view.

The feature of the fiberglass door being strong makes it durable, and therefore the door will serve you for a long without having to replace it.

Even though fiberglass is one of the best doors in the market, it is not always every homeowner’s choice for various reasons. One of the major reasons is that fiberglass doors are the most expensive, so buying them may affect your budget a big deal.

The second reason is that everything that has advantages has disadvantages too. Fiberglass material can go yellow when it becomes very old. Despite the strong material, the door can become brittle with too much exposure to extreme heat or cold and end up cracking.

  1. Wood Doors

Wooden entry doors are loved for their traditional aspect and also because they are beautiful. Their beauty lies in their amazingly blending with the natural environment, making them the best choice if you love embracing nature.

Most people get the idea of wooden exterior doors when the thought of buying a door crosses their minds. This is because wood doors have been on the market for a long time, and most people are familiar with them. Some people do not embrace change and are likely to go for the wooden door because they have used it for a while.

Wood doors allow homeowners to come up with designs of their liking for aesthetic purposes. A properly installed wooden door meets the appeal requirements and adds home value.

However, wooden doors are limited because they can easily rot, crack and warp if they are not well maintained. Additionally, wooden doors will likely attract pests such as ants and termites, who will likely feast on your door.

If you choose a wooden door, you should be prepared for occasional repair or replacement. In some circumstances, you will have to replace the wooden exterior doors if they have undergone irreversible damage. When choosing the wooden door, don’t go for the cheapest because they are often of the lowest quality.

  1. Steel Doors

Steel entry doors are the opposite of vinyl when it comes to security. Steel doors these days come in different shapes and designs with improvements in technology, and this offers you a wide variety to choose from.

Steel doors are versatile and strong. This makes them a nice option for security reasons, adding value to your home. Steel doors are not subject to rotting and cracking as it is with wooden doors. They are not subject to expansion and cracking, so you will not have to worry about difficulty in operation.

The disadvantage of steel doors is that they are subject to corrosion, making them not the best choice for locations with high humidity. If you choose steel exterior doors, you should be prepared to maintain them in case of corrosion.
