The St. Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival line-up (video)

The St. Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival line-up – A week earlier, the line-up for another of Montrealâ€™s major summer festivals, the St. Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival, was announced in front of a packed MainLine Gallery on St. Laurent Boulevard.

This is a festival where everyone is important and everyone is made to feel welcome, said the Fringe Festivalâ€™s Executive and Artistic Director Amy Blackmore. This is the only Fringe festival in the world that is bilingual. Itâ€™s also a very multi-disciplinary, value-based, intergenerational festival that since its origins in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947, has evolved into an international movement.

Also on hand at the press conference was Veronick Raymond, this yearâ€™s Fringe Festival spokesperson. There are very few places where Francophone and Anglophone artists can meet together under one roof. This festival certainly fosters that special kind of place where they can do so, said Ms. Raymond, who has been involved with the Fringe Festival since 2007, and has staged 12 shows in 12 years.

The 28^th edition of the St. Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival, scheduled for May 28-June 17, will feature over 800 performances by over 500 artists from around the world in a number of venues throughout the Plateau Mont Royal district and the downtown core, whether it be Fringe Park, the MainLine Theatre, Club Soda, Petit Campus and so many more. Highlights include the opening Fringe-For-All preview showcase (May 28), The 13^th Hour anything-goes late night showcase (June 7 to 14 and 16), the Drag Races with legendary Montreal drag queen Mado (June 16), the Mini-Fringe for kids (June 10), the Quebec Provincial Air Guitar Championships (June 15, in which this writer will be one of its contestants), a live taping of the premiere episode of the Fringebuzz Podcast (June 16) and of course, the always popular Fringe A to Z series of dance, theatrical, music and comedy shows spread across 18 different venues (May 30 to June 17).

Tickets for all the Fringe Festival shows and events, which its prices average around $10, are now available at www.fringemontreal.ca, at the MainLine Gallery (3905 St. Laurent Boulevard) from May 29 to June 6, and at the box office at Fringe Park (located at the corner of St. Laurent Boulevard and Rachel) from June 7 to 17.
