The inspiration for the song struck Racette after a significant social event. As she walked home, the echoes of the night replayed in her mind, weaving a narrative of self-doubt and insecurity. Contemplating her constant struggle with these feelings, Racette poses the question of whether this cycle of insecurity will ever break. In her own words, ‘Same Old Me’ becomes a poignant reflection on the destructive nature of insecurity, inviting listeners into a raw exploration of the burden of perceived flaws and the ongoing struggle for self-acceptance.
Geneviève Racette took an active role in co-producing ‘Same Old Me,’ collaborating with François-Pierre Lue. The song, a result of her creative partnership with trusted friend and fellow musician Danielle Knibbe, features Geneviève’s soulful vocals and skillful acoustic guitar performance. The musical ensemble further elevates the track, with the notable contributions of Matt Kelly (Alexisonfire, City and Colour) on Pedal Steel, Quatuor ESCA lending their expertise on Strings, and Marika Galea skillfully handling the Upright Bass.
