“Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though it’s breaking When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by.” In an intimate affaire at the Symposia Theater, in the heart of downtown Montreal, Matt Dusk dazzled the audience.
He shared with us his love for jazz and pop, he glided about the stage with his Gene Kelly like moves and made us chuckle with his sense of humor.
On this rainy October evening, the theater was filled with fans ranging from 16 to 86 years old, amongst them was Global’s own Richard Dagenais, he was there with his family, and they loved the show.
As the show got started, band members took their place on the stage chatting and drinking to make a lounge like atmosphere a la Frank Sinatra Rat Pack days, until they took to their instruments one at a time. The drums and the cello together made the audience feel the excitement in the room and before we knew it, Dusk jumped on the stage.
The 34 year old Toronto native mentioned he had just returned from touring Japan, he ran into one of his idols there, the 87 year old Tony Bennett that is still going strong. The evening took a twist when Matt asked everyone to take out there phones and twitter him throughout the show, snap pictures, do everything you usually are not allowed to do at a show. His engaging with the audience was a constant throughout the evening.
He wasn’t alone Saturday night; he brought friends with him. Eleanor McCain and Kellylee Evans both performed as Matt sat in the corner lounge and enjoyed their music, allowing them their moment to shine on stage.
My Funny Valentine, I Wouldn’t Change a Thing, Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad, written by Bono and the Edge and ending with Paul Anka’s I Did It My Way were amongst the hits he performed for his fans.
A fabulous evening was had by all at this classy new venue, spotlighting a great Canadian artist Matt Dusk!
