When the term “elopement” comes to mind, the general image you get is the groom-to-be When the term “elopement” comes to mind, the general image you get is the groom-to-be putting a ladder at the second- or third-floor room of his bride-to-be (usually during the middle of the night, while her family is asleep), climbing up the ladder to quietly collect her luggage, then stealthy climbing down that ladder to his car, so that they could drive to a justice of the peace to get married without all that fuss, muss and headaches that go with planning a full-scale wedding ceremony and reception.

That perception of the elopement has been around for many decades. That is, until veteran wedding and event planner Julie Scott decided to give it a more romantic reboot.

And this is where her Mont Tremblant Helicopter Elopement wedding experience package comes into the picture. A native of Halifax who has been running her own event planning company since 2017, Ms. Scott lives in Montreal, but has regularly visited – and is familiar with — the trendy resort town located in the Laurentians. “The pandemic has been quite a roller coaster ride for everyone and so many businesses, too. So I thought the idea of a wedding elopement can be fun, which can be beneficial not only to the couple in question, but to so many vendors in the Mont Tremblant area who were affected by the pandemic. The town attracts many tourists and visitors, especially from Ottawa and Toronto, and the weather is always beautiful there; there are no rainy days,” she said in a recent phone interview.

How much does the wedding package cost?
For a fee of $2200 (with an additional fee if the elopement takes place on a Saturday), a couple can have a secluded, tranquil, romantic elopement-style wedding in the Mont Tremblant area either in a mountaintop or nature rich riverbed setting. As well, the package includes a round trip helicopter ride for the couple provided by Mont Tremblant Helipad; the services of a dedicated certified wedding planner; an officiant to preside over the wedding ceremony (with witnesses provided by the staff); two hours worth of professional photographic coverage of the event by local photographer Nat Lapointe; a bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere; a champagne or non-alcoholic sparkling cider toast; and a picnic grazing station with water provided.

As well, the package deal can accommodate larger groups of up to 12 members of the immediate families at $299 per person plus taxes; all COVID-19 considerations and precautions will be respected according to provincial government guidelines; cancellations due to inclement weather – owing to the fact that the helicopter cannot fly in bad weather — will be done at no extra charge, and all bookings will also include a weather backup date so that suitable weather for the event will be ensured; and additional services are available upon request for an additional charge.

“What we offer with the Mont Tremblant Helicopter Elopement package is geared towards a different type of couple who are adventure and nature lovers who want a wedding filled with adventure and fun,” said Ms. Scott. “It should be a romantic and special happening that doesn’t have to be all paperwork and headaches, which can be tailored for the immediate family, too. It’s a nice kind of in-between experience.”
