The SPC Student Price card was founded in 1992 by Dean Mazzariol, with the goal of helping students who struggle with financial expenses an opportunity to save money. It went National in 1996, becoming Canada’s first student loyalty program. In 2007, they partnered with BMO and launched what became the #1 student credit card in the country. They released a mobile app in 2012 and in 2017 were named the top ‘Coalition Loyalty Program’ by Bond Brand Loyalty Survey & Report. In August of 2019, CIBC became their banking partner and students with an eligible bank account or credit product can receive a free SPC membership. (The BMO credit card can no longer be used for SPC benefits after November 30th 2019).

Available at only $10 for a one-year membership, August 1st until July 31st, the new SPC card is well worth it. With the card, students can find instant savings on items and services ranging from fashion, food, shoes, travel, haircuts, public transit, skiing, museums and much more – by simply showing their SPC Card at participating locations. They now have close to 1.1 million members, 450+ brands with over 120 participating retail chainsranging from: HP, Microsoft, Apple, Provigo, Amazon, Via Rail, The Source, Dormez-Vous, Lancome, Bentley, Keurig, The Brick as well as museums and galleries to name a few – and there are hundreds more. The program is available to students from elementary through post-secondary level across Canada.
