The only grocery store, Marché Richelieu in Ste Anne de Bellevue closed its doors Sunday January 15, 2023. People learned of the closure on a Facebook post. The reason for the fast closure is the company that owns the franchise was going bankrupt. Over 25 employees lost their job. The nearest grocery store was a 10-minute drive down the highway in Baie-D’Urfé.
Claude McSween and his wife Lory Vansteene have purchased the grocery store in the small community on the edge of the West Island.
McSween has grocery store experience and has owned a store in Hemmingford, Quebec along with two butcher shops.
Back in January McSween’s son said, “Dad check out the TV, the grocery store in Ste Anne de Bellevue just filed for bankruptcy”
Claude McSween was in the midst of enjoying retirement however, he knew how important a grocery store would be to the small community and he wanted to help.
The new owners have already hired staff, many from the old crew and are looking to hire more.
Marché Richelieu, which operated under the banner of Metro Inc. had been part of Sainte Anne de Bellevue for the last 85 years.
