Is government going too far with police surveillance?

police surveillance

Surveillance has gone to a new level in Montreal with a police helicopter flying over the city of Montreal checking for large outdoor gatherings.

The police have started flying over the city to make sure citizens are not getting out of hand like this past weekend in Old Montreal.

CQ helicopter for police surveillance

The Montreal police have borrowed the Sureté du Quebec helicopter, so if you thought you were hearing things last night don’t be alarmed. The police say they are trying their best to stay ahead of unlawful crowds forming even though COVID-19 Quebec restrictions have been reduced over the past week.

Last weekend a person was stabbed and shot in Old Montreal. Since then the Old Port has placed a curfew in the area closing from midnight to 6 a.m. every night until further notice.

The Montreal Police say the helicopter maybe sent up again tonight (Saturday). Police say it is an important tool for public safety.
