Something Powerful Is Coming to Montreal: “Traces et Héritages” Brings Afro-Contemporary Sound, Memory & Mystery to the Stage

Afropolitain Nomade Festival

Coming in May 2026!

The Festival Afropolitain Nomade launches its 12th edition with a new music series: Traces et Héritages(Traces and Legacies). This cycle of Afro-contemporary artistic offerings will bring together 9 artists from the African diaspora and explore memory, cultural lineages, and legacies in motion. The two evenings will take place at Le Ministère on May 29 and 30, 2026, and tickets are available for $28.

Traces et Héritages is a space where tradition meets contemporary expression, where creation becomes an act of transmission, resistance, and dialogue across places and generations. The series opens on May 29, 2026, with a vibrant musical evening that brings Afro-contemporary scenes from Africa, Europe, and the diaspora into conversation. Through distinctive artistic proposals, this evening explores cultural legacies, memory in motion, and contemporary forms of expression. An invitation to discover powerful, committed, and creative voices carrying plural narratives in which tradition meets modernity. The evening brings together Amee (Ivory Coast), Bo Johnson (France), Rodriguez Vangama (RDC), Richy Jay (Haïti / Canada) and Floric Kim (Congo).

On May 30, 2026, the Traces et Héritages series will come to a close in a powerful and memorable celebration. This closing evening brings together artists whose journeys are deeply rooted in Africa, the diasporas, and the Francophone world. Through committed voices, deeply rooted rhythms, and contemporary expression, it celebrates the power of transmission, living memory, and Afro-contemporary creativity. Artists who transform their legacies into spaces of creation, dialogue, and collective resonance will take the stage: Nda Chi (Cameroun), Yekima De Bel Art (RDC, Lydol (Cameroun) and Hendry Massamba (Congo).

The Festival Afropolitain Nomade is much more than an event: it is an artistic and civic movement that crosses borders to celebrate Afro-descendant creativity. For more than 15 years, the festival has brought together artists, thinkers, and audiences around a strong vision: to decolonize the imagination, promote gender equality, and build intercultural bridges between Africa, the diaspora, and the world. With a presence on three continents, a community of more than 700 artists from Africa, Europe, and the Americas, and more than 1,500 concerts and residencies produced in Africa and Quebec, the festival has established itself as a leading platform for Afropolitan creation.

The festival firmly believes that art is an act of freedom and a tool for social transformation. The Festival Afropolitain Nomade is committed to showcasing Afro-descendant artists by offering them international stages and opportunities for collaboration, encouraging gender parity and women’s leadership in the cultural and creative industries, and training and supporting creative youth so they can become agents of change. Each edition is a cultural journey, a platform for decolonization, and a space of freedom and dialogue between Africa, the diaspora, and the world.
