Montreals epic Bacon festival this week

Bacon-week-Mtl-min

Heads up, Montrealers, harsh cold winter is on its way, and it’s time to prepare adequately by fattening up, so as to have that extra insulating layer which will keep us warm for typical winter events, like our bus running late, surprise snow storms or that last ski run on one of the coldest days of the season.

We all know which food will help us achieve this goal -the underestimated and often taken for granted household staple- bacon.  A standard in more than half of Montreal households, bacon will typically be found at the breakfast table, served with eggs and toast, but have you tasted it in ice-cream?  How about in churros?

Bacon week

Where is the Bacon Festival

You will have the opportunity to try bacon in unexpected ways at the 5th edition of Bacon Week, this September 7th to 15th at Quartier DIX30.

Seventeen chefs will offer reworked classic recipes or new creations, in an effort to highlight bacon in all its versatility. Choices will include Gaspor bacon braised in soy, baby back ribs, stuffed ice-cream, bacon churros and torched scallops to name a few.

The first Bacon Festival took place in 2000, when a group of students got together to celebrate one of their favourite foods.  We can thank them for having started this tradition, as we head on over to Quartier DIX30. Were you not looking for an excuse to cross the new bridge? Here it is! Come and visit one or many of the restaurants offering their bacon creations: Brasserie T, Bar Les Cousins, Balthazar, Chocolats Favoris, Le Club, Cafe du Theâtre, La Tomate Blanche, L’Aurochs, Le Turf Oasis Surf, Le Vestibule, Mile Public House, Casey’s, Pizzeria No 900, Niji Sushi Bar, Mr Puffs, Portovino and Scores.
