After having to stop construction on the REM sites on March 24th, work will begin again this Monday May 11th. The resumption of work will be gradual and will take place over the next few days and weeks along the different sectors of the REM’s 67km route – following the directives from the Quebec Government – REM construction sites resume operations.

In their statement they explain, ‘Health and safety are at the heart of our concerns, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Measures to ensure the health and safety of workers have been diligently prepared in recent weeks and will be ready to be deployed and rigorously applied by NouvLR, the consortium carrying out the work – in accordance with CNESST directives. The current situation is, without a doubt, an imposing challenge that our teams are facing. Thanks to the workers who will make it possible to resume operations in the coming days. The various REM construction sites are ready to get going again. We can now continue the construction of one of the largest automated light rail systems in the world’.

MODERNIZATION OF THE MONT-ROYAL TUNNEL:

With the resumption of construction, one of the biggest disruptions will be the closing of the Mont-Royal Tunnel, starting on Monday May 11th. The closure is necessary in order for workers to carry out the essential work needed towards the modernization of the tunnel and the arrival of the REM. Service interruption on the Deux-Montagnes and Mascouche lines are scheduled as follows:

– From May 11th 2020 to 2022: Closure of the Central station-Du Ruisseau segment (the Deux-Montagnes line stops at Bois-Franc, the Mascouche line stops at Ahuntsic).

– Mid-2021 to end of 2023: Complete closure of the Du Ruisseau segment in Deux-Montagnes.

They are aware of the impact the service stoppage will have on the daily lives of Deux-Montagnes and Mascouche line users – and for information on the work being done and mitigation measures you can go online
