Coach’s Corner star Don Cherry was let go from his position today after comments he made during his rant this past Saturday’s show between the first and second period of Hocket Night in Canada‘s broadcast.

Don Cherry let go from Coach’s Corner

Don Cherry told his viewers that new Canadian immigrants do not buy poppies and do not support our Canadian Veterans.

You people … you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that, Cherry said. These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price, added Cherry.

Don Cherry’s co-host Ron MacLean apologized Sunday for not disagreeing with Cherry’s remarks. “Don’s comments were hurtful and discriminatory. The comments were flat out wrong. I owe an apology, I just sat there and did not respond.”

Ron McLean can be seen in the episode giving a thumbs up and nodding with approval.

Don Cherry has not responded publicly since the comments were made.
