After winning the semi-finals in a challenging three-game series against the Markham Thunder, Les Canadiennes will be heading to the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto on March 24th to face the Calgary Inferno for the coveted Clarkson Cup. It was a sweet win for Montreal against Markham (they took the Cup home last year after defeating the Kunlun Red Stars), with a 5-0 shutout last Friday after the series had been tied.

I think everyone contributed and played to the best of their abilities, said associate coach and four time Olympic Gold medalist Caroline Ouellette. “We were very connected, starting with our penalty kill, and after we made some adjustments. The players executed the game plan to perfection and were more aggressive. I don’t think the Thunder expected that.

It will be an exciting and challenging game for the Cup with both teams finishing in the top two positions for the season – Calgary in first place with 47 points and Montreal in second with 43 points. The team will be making their eighth trip to the Clarkson Cup Final, hoping to bring home the cup for the fifth time – having won it in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2017.

This is the 12th season for the CWHL and the league has expanded in leaps and bounds. Since April of 2016 Les Canadiennes, previously named the ‘Montreal Stars’, have partnered with the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens – wearing an iconic ‘C’ of their own, as well as sporting the ‘Bleu, Blanc, Rouge’ on their uniforms as a member of the Canadiens’ family.
