Montreal Mayor says Bixi bikes scheduled for mid April and urges citizens to keep social distancing

Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante said, “Police will be increasing its presence along the Lachine Canal, Montreal’s largest parks to stop people in gathering in groups.” The Mayor also added, “It is not the time to go running in groups nor the time to discover the city, either by walking or by bike.”

The City of Montreal has declared a local state of emergency as of March 27, 2020 over the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Montreals Bixi bike-sharing will be distributed mid April but Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante urges citizens not to be joy riding around the city.

Montrealers who violate the public health guides are subject to a $1,000 fine from the Montreal Police. Meaning groups of more than two people and people not keeping two metres apart from one another.

Mayor Plante said she will keep city parks open for now as they are located in densely populated areas of Montreal. She also added, “People MUST respect the physical-distancing rules.”
