Why Over 50 Pickleball Teams Are Taking Over a West Island Social Club on Nov. 8

Myra’s Kids Foundation’s charity tournament brings players together in memory of Matthew Morton, with a simple goal: no child should grieve alone.

MONTRÉAL, Nov. 2, 2026 – Attention, Montreal-area pickleball enthusiasts: grab your paddle and your team. Myra’s Kids Foundation is hosting its Pickleball Tournament 2026 on Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Royal Westcourt Social Club in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, and more than 50 teams are expected to take part.

Held each November in memory of Matthew Morton, the tournament raises money to send grieving children and teens to Myra’s Kids Camp. Each team is encouraged to raise $1,000, the cost of sending one child to camp.

Game On for a Good Cause

The tournament features Competitive, Leisure and Youth divisions, so players of different skill levels and ages can join in. Teams will play round-robin games, followed by playoff brackets.

Beyond the games, the day includes:

  • A Kid Zone for younger guests
  • Lunch and refreshments
  • Trophies and prizes
  • Plenty of community spirit

Remembering Matthew Morton

As mentioned, this tournament honours Matthew Morton. In the foundation’s words:

Matthew was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. His life was shaped by a deep love for his family and a steady commitment to caring for everyone around him. As a brilliant medical educator and physician, he earned many awards and accolades, but it was his warmth, generosity, and the close friendships he nurtured that truly defined who he was. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Heidi, and their children, Brooke, Zachary, and Joshua. Matthew’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the example he set of kindness, dedication, and compassion. His legacy continues to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.

This year’s tournament also launches the 10/10/10 Opportunity, a campaign marking 10 years of fundraising in Matthew’s memory. The goal is to recruit 10 Key Player sponsors who each raise $10,000, for a total of $100,000, enough to fund 10 camp bunks for grieving children and young adults.

Why It Matters

Myra’s Kids Foundation supports children and teens experiencing grief through camps and other resources. More than 550 children have attended one of its grief camps, and more than 600 have attended its monthly programs. The tournament is held each November, during Children’s Grief Awareness Month. “Grief can feel heavy, especially for a child,” the foundation says on its tournament page.

Every $1,000 a team raises covers one child’s place at Myra’s Kids Camp. The foundation’s message for the day is simple: “Because no child should grieve alone.”
