REM explosion – There was an explosion in the Mount-Royal tunnel and all work has been stopped at the moment. The explosion seems to be caused by explosives dated back to 1912. No one was hurt in the blast.
A Press release says the “unexpected” explosion happened this past July. Work was halted until they felt everything was safe to resume work.
REM trains were expected to run by the end of 2021, however the company incharge of the construction of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) says that complications have made the target date to open delayed by six months. They also stated COVID-19 had a role in delaying the project.
The REM Mount-Royal Tunnel portion should open in the Fall of 2023, instead of Spring 2022.
The whole REM project should be opened and expected to be running by December 2024.
