More great news on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Health Canada has just announced they have approved Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for distribution in Canada by the end of the year.
There is an expected delivery of over 168,000 doses by the end of this year.
Health Canada has approved the Moderna vaccine today after a review on the company’s clinical trial data. The Moderna vaccine has been reported to be 94.1 per cent effective against COVID-19.
There were no important safety issues identified and no life-threatening adverse events or deaths related to the vaccine study,” said a notice from the government.
Moderna’s vaccine is the second to be approved by Health Canada in the last two weeks with Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine being approved on December 9, 2020.
Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine both require two doses (shots) to achieve maximum immunity from COVID-19.
The Canadian government has pre-purchased over 20 million Moderna Vaccine doses since early August 2020. Canada is looking to buy another 16 million doses.
