What Makes Montreal So Great? Why We Love This City

Why we love Montreal

Here in Montreal, no one does it better! We do winter like no one else. We know how to embrace cold weather with activities such as tobogganing, hangboarding, and snowshoeing – all invented here (we think so anyway), but we also know how to fight winter with our underground cities, connected office towers, indoor water parks, and of course shovels and snow blowers!

Our affection for Montreal extends towards our affinity for the history of entertaining. I am talking about our street performers, led by Guy Laliberte, born in Quebec (so we are claiming him as our own), who founded the iconic Cirque du Soleil. Last year, close to 15 million people worldwide attended Cirque shows, and the province’s penchant for acrobatics has expanded to include Cirque Éloize, Les 7 doigts de la main and two specialty schools, making Montreal a circus performance centre.

Montreal is also a city that truly stands out for its unique blend of cultures, stunning architecture, and vibrant lifestyle.

Here are several more reasons to love Montreal, Quebec:

It goes without saying that Festival City is also a melting pot of French, English and numerous other cultures, offering a rich tapestry of traditions and languages.

Signature Foods

And when it comes to cuisine, Montreal is renowned not just for poutine, but also Montreal smoked meat, and Montreal-style bagels. My favourite restaurants include Schwartz’s, famous for their delicious smoked meat sandwiches – with a side order of award-winning French fries, coleslaw and of course, a succulent pickle!

Old Montreal

Let us not forget ‘Old Montreal’, where one can explore the cobblestone streets of what is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city is also known for its high safety standards, making it a safe city to visit.

And let us not forget the local French culture and language, which is integral to the city’s identity. We have festivals and events throughout the year! As well, the nightlife here offers numerous clubs and bars to choose from. Shall I go on? Yes!

Just For Laughs

We have some of the best comedy festivals, including the world-famous Just for Laughs Festival, attracting renowned Canadian stars such as Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, Russell Peters, Norm Macdonald, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Aykroyd, and our very own, Kevin Macdonald and Samir Khullar.

Outdoor Playground

There are also many outdoor activities and nature areas, including our hugely popular and beautiful Mount Royal Park, where one can enjoy the panoramic views of the city, in addition to Parc Jean-Drapeau, the Montreal Botanical Gardens, Parc-nature du Cap-Saint-Jacques, Jarry Park, and more.

Shopping

As well as plenty of Art and Museum galleries which showcase Montreal’s artistic heritage. And as for fashion? Well, the city has plenty of trendy fashion districts, from vintage shops to modern retail chains! Tourists love shopping here.

For those who do love shopping, well, you have found the place! Montreal has an abundance of exceptional shopping centres, such as:

  • Centre Eaton de Montréal: A central hub with over 175 shops, restaurants, and services, including a wax museum.
  • Royalmount: A luxury shopping, dining, and entertainment destination with 170 boutiques and 60 restaurants.
  • Quartier DIX30: An expansive village with various stores, local concepts, and entertainment options.
  • Plaza Côte-des-Neiges: Known for its diverse range of shops and eateries. All these centres have a mix of modern shopping, dining and entertainment, making them one of the most popular destinations for shoppers.

F1 Motor Racing

What every F! spectator needs to know

And for those who like things fast but not furious, Montreal hosts the Canadian Grand Prix, an F1 racing event held since 1961. It has been part of the Formula One World Championship since 1967. It is now staged at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre Dame Island in Montreal, Quebec and when it comes to town, the city goes into hyper mode in terms of celebrity spotting and celebratory communtiy events.

Festivals Galore

With events in mind, as mentioned Montreal’s vibrant festival scene is a testament to the city’s cultural diversity and passion for celebration. Here are some of the top festivals to look forward to in 2026:

Montreal International Jazz Festival: The largest jazz festival in the world, featuring global jazz legends and a diverse lineup of artists.

OSHEAGA: A summer music festival with six stages, immersive art installations, and top international headliners.

POP Montreal: A premier music festival that showcases a wide range of genres and performances. Fantasia Festival: A film festival that celebrates the best in Canadian cinema.

Fringe Montreal: An alternative performing arts festival that supports experimental comedy and unique theatrical performances.

These festivals are just a few of hundreds that offer a diverse range of world-class music, art, and cultural experiences, making them must-attend events for any visitor to Montreal!

One last thing, is that, quite simply, Montreal just ROCKS!

From T8 Tubes to Linear Retrofit: Modernize Your Lighting Without Tearing Down the Ceiling

For many building owners, warehouse managers, or home workshop enthusiasts, the ceiling is a landscape of aging metal boxes housing flickering fluorescent tubes. These fixtures, while functional for decades, have become a source of mounting frustration. Between the humming ballasts and the constant need to replace burnt-out bulbs, the maintenance cycle feels never-ending. The good
