Beyonce fifth album sets record

Beyonce’s fifth album

Beyonce – On Friday, December 13, Beyoncé shocked the world with a midnight iTunes album release. There was no publicity or marketing prior to the release, instead Queen Bey dropped her 14 track album (videos for each one included) without a single word. Her new album became the fastest selling album on iTunes ever with more than 800,000 download in its first three days. Ladies and gentleman, that is why they call her the Queen.

On the day of its release, iTunes released a statement saying the release was a “strategic move by the artist to deliver music and visual content directly to her fans…” Her fans, including myself are all forever thankful. Social media exploded following the release of her album titled Beyoncé. Celebrities were praising the artist, fans couldn’t go to sleep and her videos were an instant hit with her audience.

Beyonce told media she didn’t want to release her music the way she always has. “I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans.”

Like many of her fans, I was surprised by the digital release but I immediately went to iTunes and downloaded a copy and let me tell you Queen Bey doesn’t disappoint with this album. Currently sitting at No.1 in 104 countries, her album expresses a variety of personal messages from being told to change her appearance to a song dedicated to her daughter Blue Ivy titled “Blue.” Bey collaborated with some heavy hitters on this album including her husband Jay-Z, Drake, Frank Ocean and the list goes on.

I’m the most impressed with the 17 videos that come with the album download. They are visually stunning and different from previous music videos Beyonce has released in the past. As for the tracks, they are raw and hip-hop inspired. We get to see Bey’s rapping talents too in a few of her tracks which is literal music to my ears.

Although there has been tons of praise surrounding the Diva’s album release, retail giant Target isn’t so happy. They refuse to stock her album after claiming her surprise digital release will negatively impact CD sales. Don’t worry, I don’t think Bey is crying, however, she’s laughing all the way to the bank and her fans are rejoicing and shaking their booties to her new single XO.
