Imagine experiencing a virtual reality where you can play an active role and set life goals tailored to your personal wishes. Welcome to the world of Black Mirror, now open in Montreal!
Presented by Infinity Experiences at the Montreal Science Centre, located at 2 de la Commune Street West, Black Mirror is a 60-minute virtual reality experience based on the popular international TV series of the same name, and is set within the framework of the mythical tech giant Phaethon, as it launches a new technological innovation called LifeAgent.
The goal of LifeAgent is for its participants to customize their new life reality by shaping the aspects they choose into what they regard as a better, more comfortable life. It practically echoes Total Recall (the Arnold Schwarzenegger version), but without all the violence.

Each participant is issued their own robot avatar/guide to accompany them along their virtual journey, with their own face reproduced on the robot (which gave me the impression of what I would look like if I were six feet tall). After your life goals are selected, you embark on a breathtaking journey towards them.

Stops along that journey includes being a contestant on a TV game show called “Brain Game”; an encounter with the father of psychoanalysis himself — Sigmund Freud — who asks you to tell him about a recent dream you had and offers his own analysis about it; a laser shoot-them-up life-like video game; and the final realization of your life goals that is literally quite a wild ride.

The computer-generated images on Black Mirror are polished and have top-notch photographic quality, giving the experience a rather authentic air. You can’t help but be constantly amazed by how virtual reality experiences can reach new heights, and Black Mirror certainly represents that next level quite admirably, especially when it comes to having participants play a more active role in its evolving VR world.
