Why you should move to Canada

why you should move to Canada

Canada is one of the most popular destinations amongst Brits and Americans alike – with the wide-open spaces, affluent but safe cities and the beautiful landscape it is not hard to see why. There is Ontario with the thriving city of Toronto or family-friendly Alberta with the popular city of Calgary (check out this illustrated Calgary map) or the more rural areas of Quebec such as Boucherville. There is something for everyone in Canada and if you are still undecided then here are some reasons you should make the move.

Safe and Secure

The low crime rate in Canada is a great source of envy around the world and violent crime is extremely rare. Gun ownership is almost four times lower than it is in the US because of the more stringent laws but also because Canadians just feel safer living here.

Quality Education

Canada puts a lot of stock in high-quality education and all the children across the country are guaranteed access to the best schooling available regardless of their background. The Canadian government spends more money per capita on education than any other country in the world. Children in Canada, on average, stay in education longer and go on to contribute to the well-educated, well-paid society that exists in Canada.

Multicultural

Canada is a melting pot of different cultures – its Anglo-French culture is ingrained in Canada’s national identity. Canada’s members of parliament include 51 members who were born overseas and help to drive the narrative of tolerance and multiculturalism on a government level, further evidence of the country’s status as one of the most diverse nations in the world.

Tolerant, Open-Minded Society

There is a reason for Canada’s relaxed and liberal reputation – it has been a pioneer of civil rights and was the first country (outside of Europe) to legalize same-sex marriage. It is forward-thinking in its immigration policies and has a zero-tolerance approach to hate crimes or racial abuse. Canadians have long since realized the benefits that immigrants can bring to the country and economy and have a fair and sensible immigration policy to welcome those who are truly willing to make a successful life in Canada.

Universal Healthcare

A huge allure for those considering the move to Canada is its fair and accessible healthcare system. Medical treatments are mostly free and are funded by government taxes. Each province has a health budget to administer locally and issue health cards to residents allowing them access to healthcare. Some immigrants may be granted a health card, but it is worth doing the research in case you need to take out private insurance.

Beautiful

Possibly the most common factor that draws tourists and immigrants alike is the sheer beauty of the Canadian landscape. The vast countryside offers ice-bound arctic tundra and snow-covered peaks as well as sparkling lakes and stunning woodland. Not only is it beautiful to behold but also presents opportunities for adventure and activities like skiing, kayaking, whale watching and hiking. You will never be stuck for something to do.
