Montreal has long been a crossroads of society, and has promoted a wonderful local social scene arising from that. Never has this been more well evidenced than the tense yet vibrant events surrounding the successful Cop15, which crowned an excellent 2022 for the city. Montreal isn’t quietening down, however. As residents and visitors find, there are three aspects to the city – its vibrancy and fun, its inclusiveness, and its natural climate – that come together to make Montreal an absolute wonderful destination and a joy for everyday life.
Fun and frivolity
Quebec has long been a destination for nightlife and gambling, with Montreal at the heart of that. Online and in-person, Montreal provides a gambling site that is safe, legal, and, crucially, fun. Increasingly, the scene is profitable, too. While it’s important to note that gambling and betting should never be seen as an income source, and instead a bit of flavour and excitement for trips centred around other attractions, it is nevertheless paying out for visitors. CTV News highlighted the case of one local man who won $3 million in the casinos, who hit his jackpot while waiting for a show. That wonderful old-time combination, of good food and drink, good theatre, and fun at the casino, is a time-honoured one and one that Montreal as a city encapsulates perfectly. Finding that balance between fun and restraint has not always been easy, and is something to be treasured in a city that often finds balance.

Promoting inclusiveness
That same sense of calm and balance has been extended to the matter of inclusion. CBC recently ran a profile on one Montreal senior, who identifies as a trans person. In the article, it was noted that LGBT seniors are often at greater risk of discrimination and homelessness; bucking the trend, the profiled person stated just how good Montreal has been for inclusion and offering an open society, and how they wished more could experience that. A great example of the inclusion that Montreal offers, and the even-handedness of the social opportunities it can grant, this means that most people will be able to get their all out of the city.
Enjoying the winter
That’s just as well as Montreal has a phenomenal set of activities available that make the most of the climate. In Time Out’s essential summing-up of the best activities in the city, there’s a serious theme of ice and snow in the series. In and around the city, the climate and the enjoyment of it features heavily in the holiday plans of every person and family, and that appreciation of nature, and the benefits it brings, has left a deep imprint.
Montreal has something to offer for everyone. The stories and lives of its citizens and visitors build into a rich cultural tapestry that, with every year, only becomes more detailed. With the climate of the area always supporting a sense of fun and community care, that should continue for years.
