The long awaited verdict is out. On Thursday morning the Montreal Public Consultation Committee (OCPM) released its report concerning Projet Montreal’s pilot project that had the road over Mount Royal closed to most vehicles for months last year. After holding public hearings where over 13,000 people participated, they came to the conclusion the results were ‘inconclusive’ concerning ‘accessibility’ to the mountain, as well as ‘safety’ and ‘user experience’ and have recommended opening the road to through traffic. But they also recommended the road be developed as a recreational road ‘that people would use because it is a pleasant drive, and not as a shortcut’. Last autumn, Mayor Plante stated she would follow the OPCM report and its recommendations. She is scheduled to hold a press conference this morning. More to follow.
