MONTREAL, Sunday, December 28, 2025 — It is going to be extra slippery out there over the next 24 hours, making getting around town a little more of a challenge than usual in Montreal. An Orange Warning has been issued by Environment Canada for Freezing rain with ice pellets in and around Montreal starting Sunday night and ending Monday evening, extending as far as the Laurentians and the Eastern Townships. Residents and travellers can expect icy driving and walking conditions, along with possible power outages.
What is an Orange Warning?
According to Canada’s new colour coded weather alert system, Orange means:
- Severe weather is likely to cause significant damage, disruption, or health impacts
- Impacts are major, widespread and/or may last a few days
- Orange alerts are uncommon

Where: Outaouais, Laurentians, Lanaudière, Greater Montreal, Montérégie and Eastern Townships.

Freezing precipitation amounts of 5 to 15 millimetres are expected. Southwesterly winds will reach up to 70 kilometres per hour starting at the end of the day on Monday. Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Prolonged utility outages are likely.
Be aware of falling ice and branches.
