West Island Bear euthanized – Wildlife refuge in disbelief

West Island Bear euthanized

West Island Bear euthanized – According to the Sauvetage Animal Rescue press release on social media, the West Island bear, nicknamed “Pooh” was put down and not released in the wild. Sauvetage Animal Rescue say they are in shock about what happened to Pooh.

Sauvetage Animal Rescue said it had lined up several wildlife refuges who were willing to take the bear. Other animal groups were baffled when they heard the news. They were assured that the young bear would be released into the wild.

Officials from Quebec’s Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks said they made the decision to euthanize the bear because it feared the bear could return to a populated area putting residents at risk.

Sauvetage Animal Rescue are also asking not to call their offices about the euthanasia of the bear. They had nothing to do with the decision. The current call volume has cluttered their lines and is hindering rescue operations and on going distressed animals.
