Award winning Montreal Geneviève Racette releases “Same Old Me” – Pure Talent

Geneviève Racette

Canadian Folk Music Award-winning musician, Geneviève Racette, showcases her talent in the thought-provoking song ‘Same Old Me.’ The single is the first released off Racette’s fourth studio album ‘Golden’ expected to be released this fall. ‘Same Old Me’ was premiered via Canadian Beats and is now available for streaming here.

Within the realms of Folk-pop and Americana, Geneviève captures the essence of her deeply personal journey through unflinchingly honest lyrics and haunting vocals. The inspiration for the song struck Racette after a significant social event. As she walked home, the echoes of the night replayed in her mind, weaving a narrative of self-doubt and insecurity. Contemplating her constant struggle with these feelings, Racette poses the question of whether this cycle of insecurity will ever break. In her own words, ‘Same Old Me’ becomes a poignant reflection on the destructive nature of insecurity, inviting listeners into a raw exploration of the burden of perceived flaws and the ongoing struggle for self-acceptance.

Geneviève Racette took an active role in co-producing ‘Same Old Me,’ collaborating with François-Pierre Lue. The song, a result of her creative partnership with trusted friend and fellow musician Danielle Knibbe, features Geneviève’s soulful vocals and skillful acoustic guitar performance. The musical ensemble further elevates the track, with the notable contributions of Matt Kelly (Alexisonfire, City and Colour) on Pedal Steel, Quatuor ESCA lending their expertise on Strings, and Marika Galea skillfully handling the Upright Bass. The collaborative effort of this talented team enriches the sonic tapestry of ‘Same Old Me,’ creating a captivating musical experience.

Geneviève Racette, a highly acclaimed folk-pop musician from Montréal, has captured the hearts of listeners with her gentle yet compelling emotional resonance. Since her debut EP in 2014, she has gained remarkable industry support for her folk-pop tracks. Geneviève has become a rising star in both the French and English-speaking Canadian music scenes, known for her vulnerable lyricism and ethereal vocals.

Her third full-length record, ‘Satellite,’ released in March 2022 and the deluxe version in March 2023, is a collection of nine songs that share honest stories of self-discovery and reflection through the cycle of love. ‘Satellite’ has received unprecedented recognition since its release, with glowing reviews from major outlets like Rolling Stone, Exclaim!, CBC, Women of Americana, Americana Music Association, Sirius XM, and numerous other publications and radio stations. One standout track on the album is ‘Someone,’ a beautiful duet with City and Colour’s Dallas Green.

Geneviève’s career trajectory has seen a remarkable ascent since her previous album, ‘No Water, No Flowers,’ which propelled her from regional recognition in Quebec to national acclaim. She earned a Canadian Folk Music Award, performed with City and Colour at Osheaga, and received rave reviews from various media outlets, music publications, and blogs. Her music also found a place on multiple radio stations across Canada and the USA.

As a woman in the music industry, Geneviève prioritizes surrounding herself with like-minded women-identifying individuals. She takes pride in the fact that over 80% of her team consists of woman-identifying musicians and industry members. Fine-tuning her artistic vision and building a profound network of professionals, Geneviève approached the release of this latest record with a newfound creative state of mind and a vision to export her music across North America and beyond—a feat she unwaveringly achieved.

Geneviève has headlined numerous shows across Canada and the United States and showcased at prestigious music events such as Folk Alliance International, Folk Music Ontario, NERFA, AMERICANAFEST, Canadian Music Week, and more. Looking ahead, her fourth record, ‘Golden,’ is set to be released in fall 2024, adding anticipation to her already impressive musical journey.
