Beaconsfield Teenage Kayaker Drowning – The death of an 18 year-old kayaker, whose body was found in Lac Saint-Louis last Thursday near Centennial Park in Beaconsfield, will be investigated by a coroner. His body was pulled from the water sometime after 7:00pm by first responders, while some family members looked on.
There were four emergency response boats who had searched the area, including two fire department boats, one coast guard boat, as well as a Montreal police boat equipped with an underwater camera.
Montreal fire department’s Bobby Lagace said that some witnesses saw him fall into the water, with one woman saying she saw the teenager around 3:00pm, struggling in the water, arms flailing and calling for help. They called 911, but when emergency responders arrived he was nowhere to be seen. They first found his lifejacket floating in the water and then later on his kayak was found on the rocks.
He had rented the kayak from a new city-operated business that also rents out paddleboats. The city of Beaconsfield suspended rentals on Thursday right after the incident and the business is supposed to resume operations on Saturday morning.
