Montreal's first baby of 2026

MONTREAL, January 1, 2026 – The Jewish General Hospital (JGH) welcomes its first baby of 2026! Arpi Zourikian and Constantinos Kalfopoulos are thrilled to meet their new little one, Liana Kalfopoulos. The baby girl was born at 12:00:02 a.m., just two seconds after midnight on January 1, 2026, weighing 6lbs 9oz.

With more than 3,500 babies delivered in 2025, the Jewish General Hospital continues to operate Montreal’s busiest birthing centre. As one of Quebec’s leading tertiary-care obstetrical and neonatal hospitals, the JGH specializes in high-risk pregnancies and provides Level 3 neonatal care for newborns as early as 23 weeks of gestation.

Families also now benefit from the JGH’s newly expanded and fully renovated Post-Partum Care Unit, which recently opened in a bright, modern space designed for greater privacy, comfort and safety. The new unit features 30 private rooms and two semi-private rooms, offering a calmer and more supportive environment for parents and their newborns.
