The 2022 Australian Open will take place later this month in Melbourne, Australia. The Aussie Open is the first Grand Slam of the tennis season, and there are many Canadian players participating with a chance to win their first major trophy.
On the Men’s side Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov are currently playing well at the ATP Cup and are contenders to win this years’ Australian Open. On the Women’s side, Leylah Annie Fernandez, only four months removed from her runner-up finish at the 2021 US Open, is considered a contender to go on another run at the Aussie Open. Milos Raonic and Bianca Andreescu, two other top Canadian tennis players will not be participating in the tournament due to injury and mental health.
Australian Open Men’s Singles Odds
The majority of oddsmakers have Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov in the top 15 contenders to win the Men’s Australian Open singles tournament.
Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev are the three favourites on the Men’s side, but Novak’s controversial issue with the Australian government could remove one of the top contenders from the tournament before it even begins.

Australian Open Women’s Singles Odds
In the women’s tournament world #1 Ashleigh Barty and defending champion and four-time major winner, Naomi Osaka, are the two favourites to win the tournament.
According to Bodog, Leylah Annie Fernandez has odds of 20-1 to win the tournament, which puts her as around the 11th or 12th favourite in the women’s singles event.
Canadian Hopefuls
The three young Canadians with ages ranging from 22 to 19 years old are already stars in the tennis world, but they’re looking to take that next step in their careers and really solidify themselves as superstars by winning a major championship. All three players took another step towards the ultimate prize last year with Dennis Shapovalov making his first Grand Slam semi-final at Wimbledon, Auger-Aliassime advancing to his first semi-final at the US Open, and Fernandez losing in a close battle in the US Open Finals.
