Over the past few months we have all seen the horrific pictures of luggage being stock piled at many airports around the globe. We have heard of people or known family and friends that have been stranded at a destination and unfortunately not been able to return home on their scheduled flights.
Just this past week hundreds of Canadian travels where stranded in Mexico by Sunwing. Sunwing stated is was caused to the massive storm that wrecked havoc over the Eastern part of Canada during the holidays.
The government of Canada is seeing and hearing about Canadians frustration with air travel and is now looking into strengthening air passenger protection.
As of August this past year over 18,000 complaints have flooded the Canadian Transportation agency (CTA) and as of this past November over 30,000 complaints.
The government has not gone into detail as to what measures they will be placing on airliners to protect flyers. However, they did say more responsibility must be placed on airliners to compensate. Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra stated, “Currently, it seems too many passengers have to deal with that burden themselves instead of the airliners!”
In the meantime we would suggest flying with a larger airliner and try to stay away from chartered flights as they do not have the resources to fly you home if anything mechanical happens to your plane.
