If you’re a senior citizen living in Quebec who is 70 years of age and over, you can now book an appointment for a third dose booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Appointments are now being accepted for people who are age 75 and over; people 70 years of age and over can book their booster shot appointments as of November 23.

Provincial health minister Christian Dube stated that Quebec’s immunization committee recommended booster shots for those over 70 because “the vaccine protection tends to decrease slightly in people aged 80 and over.” The booster shots are available on a voluntary basis, not a mandatory one. However, the booster shots will be given to those of all ages who previously received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine; they can book their appointments starting November 25.
Mr. Dube added that the booster shots will not be made available to those under the age of 70, because he believed it would not be necessary for them. This is the opposite of what Health Canada has done, which was to approve the Pfizer booster shot for all adults who are 18 years of age and over.
He added that a period of six months should be observed between the last dose and the booster shot and before trying to book an appointment.
As the numbers go regarding vaccination statistics as of the beginning of November, 79.5 per cent of the total population of Quebec has received at least one dose of vaccine. That number climbs to 90.8 per cent for those aged 12 and over who are eligible to be vaccinated, while 88.2 per cent are considered adequately vaccinated.
