Festival Orientalys 12th edition – Montreal festivals

Montreal Festivals

Montreal Festivals – The Orientalys Festival team unveils the program for its 12th edition today, which will take place from August 18 to 21, 2022 at the Clock Tower Quay in the Old Port of Montreal. Presented by the TD Bank Group, Orientalys returns in its full and usual form with an invigorated energy to transform the Old Port once again into a theatre of a thousand and one wonders of the Orient.

With this full in person return, the Festival continues to offer the public free outdoor performances through a variety of shows offering quality entertainment, fun and informative workshops given by passionate Quebec and Canadian artists, as well as an arts and crafts exhibition. This annual meeting, rich in discoveries and encounters, carries with it the cultural scene of an abundant plurality, in the image of the city of Montreal’s diversity.

The edition will be particularly marked by the return of a live international program on the TD Stage, for a sharing of oriental cultures with a universal vocation, as conceived by the Orientalys festival team. This 12th edition will also be an opportunity to find the “Pays d’Orient” space. This incredible souk, made up of a hubbub of music, and hustle and bustle rejoicing, has always been considered the heart of the festival, evoking all the voluptuousness of this imaginary Orient. After two long years of absence, this unique and characteristic component of the Festival reopens its doors to an impatient public.

“What a joy to finally experience the Orientalys Festival in person, after such a difficult and uncertain time!” said the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Quebec Lieutenant, Pablo Rodriguez. “It’s an honour to support a festival full of vitality, diversity, and colour. Come be part of the celebration and discover the art, dance, music, and culture of Eastern countries. Enjoy the festival!”

“The year 2022 sounds a bit like a rebirth for all of us. After a difficult period of restrictions due to the pandemic, life is gradually resuming its course. Montreal is in effervescence, its citizens seethe and are thirsty for culture and discovery. The Orientalys Festival takes on its full meaning in this period of renewal perceivable in the streets, in the Old Port as in the other districts of the city, and its essential role is only felt even more”, states Ghiwa Nakhlé, director of the Festival.

“In parallel with the event activities that mark the year, Alchimies, Créations et Cultures is working to develop its collaboration with the many associations involved in the “Pays d’Orient” section of the Orientalys Festival to set up a cultural partnership network in production, distribution, and communication. This network, to be presented to the public this fall, will aim to unite the efforts and resources of these important players in diversity, and thus optimize the development and influence potential of our artists and our communities”, adds Ms. Nakhlé.
