The best places to visit in Montreal this autumn

Montreal

Montréal is a great city for the autumn season. It is a cosy and welcoming city, yet imposing and scenic at the same time.

There are many wonderful activities available during the fall season in Montréal. It can be hard to narrow the list down to just a few.

But we’ve taken this challenge on and have made a list of the best places for you to visit in Montréal this autumn.

Top places in Montréal during the autumn season

Here are some of the best places to stop by this autumn season. You can find all these spots in the city of Montréal or near the city.

Montreal
  • Mount Royal Park

Visiting Mount Royal Park is one of the best free activities in Montréal. The park is particularly nice during the autumn months when the trees’ foliage turns different shades of orange and red.

So, why not stop by and admire the trees’ beautiful foliage this fall? You can go for a stroll with a friend and sip on your favourite hot beverage as you take in the scenery.

For the full ‘fall experience’, you can enjoy your stroll with a fall-inspired drink in hand. Hot chocolates, pumpkin spice lattes and cinnamon teas are just a few autumn-inspired drinks that can be enjoyed on the go.

  • The Old Port via the Montréal Zipline

If you want to see the autumn foliage from up close, don’t miss out on the MTL Zipline, also known as the Montréal Zipline.

It is the biggest urban zipline circuit in the country, which makes it even more unique and exciting.

This zipline will give you the opportunity to discover the city from a bird’s eye view. You will get to fly over Montréal’s Old Port and Bonsecours island.

The MTL Zipline has been operating for nearly a decade and is still as popular as ever.

It is open until the 15th of December, but we recommend booking for this autumn. The activity is weather-dependent so your booking could be cancelled last-minute if the weather is bad.

You are more likely to have a smooth and enjoyable experience if you book for this fall. You will also be more comfortable up there on the zipline during fall than you will be during the colder winter months.

The experience is available from midday up until 6pm. Just head to the Old Port (Vieux-Port de Montréal) to start ziplining.

The activity is open to adults and children from the age of 3 years old onwards. You must weigh a minimum of 50lbs (23kg) and no more than 250lbs (113kg) to participate.

Tickets cost $21 USD for anyone over 13 years old and $17 USD for those under 13.

  • Casino de Montréal

When the weather starts getting colder, who doesn’t like to spend some quality time indoors?

One of the most exciting and fun indoor places in the city is the Casino de Montréal.

It is the ideal location if you are looking for some new and entertaining activities to do with friends. There are concerts, restaurants, bars and game rooms in the casino.

If you are not interested in casino gaming, just stop by the venue for a concert or a cabaret show. You can also go dancing at the casino on one of the weekly live DJ nights.

Most of the music events are actually free!

If you want a specific fall event, we recommend the ‘Tribute Thursdays’ that run until October 24. On those Thursdays, you can sing along to some of the most famous music hits with your friends.

If you want a more traditional casino experience, make sure to stop by the game rooms and try your hand at casino gaming.

If you find land-based casinos a bit intimidating, you can practice beforehand at an online casino. For example, you can play some online slots to prepare for land-based slot gaming.

  • Gardens of Light at the Botanical Gardens

Last but not least, one of the best outdoors experiences in Montréal is in the Botanical Gardens (Jardin Botanique). In those gardens, you will find the Gardens of Light.

Up until the 31st of October, you can see an enchanting display of lights that pay homage to Chinese and Japanese cultures. Prepare yourself for a delightful experience with unique projections and giant water screens.

Ticket prices can be found here.
